Wood comes in several forms: Lumber, Small Logs, and Sturdy Sticks. Each has different sources and uses.
How to Get Lumber
Salvage from Fences
Check the broken fences along the cliffs west of the starting area. Broken sections often have Lumber piles to collect.
Convert Logs with Scyther
Scyther converts 1 Small Log into 5 Lumber. To unlock Scyther:
- Create a tree-shaded tall grass Habitat (4 tall grass around any healthy tree)
- Complete Scyther’s requests until they ask for logs
- Scyther will convert the logs and offer the service going forward
How to Get Small Logs
Log Piles
Find log piles around the world. Use the Cut move to attack them. Several Small Logs will drop.

Chop Down Trees
Cutting any tree drops Small Logs, Sturdy Sticks, and a seed to plant a new tree. This is the sustainable method since you can replant immediately.
How to Get Sturdy Sticks
Sturdy Sticks are scattered across the entire landscape. Pick them up as you explore.
They respawn near healthy trees regularly. If you need more quickly, chop down trees.
